Well, you Midwest people can stop your snickering now. We got some serious snow last night. When I looked out this morning, this is what I saw. About five inches fell overnight.
It's been falling off and on all morning. If you believe the forecasters, this is only the beginning, and we're in for some serious snow this week. It isn't often we see even this much, let alone what is predicted.
The kitties have been out.
They always greet the snow with a mixture of confusion and curiosity.
Smitty thinks it's best viewed from his kitty pole.
Sadie was the more adventurous of the two this morning. She went out several times, coming in and chattering away with excitement each time. Eventually, she settled in on my lap to help me with my slow-stitching. See if you can guess what's happening in the next to photos.
As long as we're talking about the Snow Globes stitchery, I stitched enough of the base yesterday to move the hoop to the right.
Here's where I left it yesterday.
Like the Energizer Bunny, this morning I just kept going, and going, and going, until I had the whole base stitched. It's fun when I can add the sparkly floss.
Now I've moved the hoop northward, and the last of the last is encompassed. There isn't a whole lot left, and so this could easily be finished tomorrow morning. If you look at the top of the image below, you can see a few stray Sadie furs. Her fur is really bad about sticking to the fabric. A lint roller works well.
Oh yes, and I stitched the next little inchy too. This one had a new-to-me stitch...the pistil stitch, which is the pink stitching above the flower. It's really just a long stitch with a French knot at the end. It was a little hard keeping tension on the floss to get a good tight stitch and knot. I finally figured out just to keep my thumb over the knot while I pulled it tight. Also, those are double lazy daisies leaves.
Yesterday, I finished my February OMG, which was to sew together the blocks for the Rainbow Jubilee quilt. It's a finished flimsy now.
When all was said and done, I had this little pile of trimmings. No, I will not be saving them for anything.
When the time comes, I'll be linking up to:
It was good to get the flimsy finished so that Matthew could see it when he came by yesterday to drop off his van. There have been no messages from him this morning, and so it seems safe to assume that his 5:00 a.m. flight to Houston took off as scheduled. He'll fly into Houston and then on to Guatemala City where he will be until the end of April. We'll miss him while he's gone, but I'm glad he's out living his life and choosing adventure when he can.
This is the view from my window as I'm writing this.
It looks like the birds could use a handout, and so I'll probably suit up and fill the bird feeders when I finish here. I'd like to get out and take some pictures while the snow is fresh. Mike just went out to chain up the tractor and plow our driveway.
As for the rest of the day, this will be my view. I'm getting ready to settle in and quilt the Hocuspocusville quilt.
It's time as a kitty fort has come to an end.
I'm guessing there will be Spanish coffees in this mix today. It's good to stay warm both inside and out, wouldn't you agree?
